Signal Collection

Knowing not just who — but why reach out to them now.

Workflow

Step 1Raw List

Raw list in → signal sources activated per ICP.

Why it matters

  • The single biggest lever in modern outbound. Reaching someone at the moment of change beats reaching them cold every time. Signals are what turn a database into a conversation.

Best practices

  • Choose signal sources per ICP — Parallel, Exa, Apify, job boards, maps.
  • Score recency: a signal 7 days old is far stronger than 90 days.
  • Tag the signal type (funding, hiring, tech change, job move) so the angle maps to it.
  • Validate signal quality before it drives outreach — false signals burn credibility.
  • Keep a feedback loop: which signals actually correlate with replies and closes?

Common mistakes

  • Collecting signals you never act on — noise.
  • Treating "funded recently" as one signal when the buyer context differs.
  • No recency scoring — acting on stale intent.

Key questions

  • What event makes this company more likely to buy this quarter?
  • Can the signal be verified, or is it a guess?
  • Which signal maps to which angle in the copy?
