The Core Concept
More data does not equal better decisions. Usually, it equals more confusion.
RevOps teams trip into the trap of "Tracking Everything." The result is a dashboard with 40 tiles that nobody looks at, because it doesn't tell a story.
The Trap: "Vanity Activity"
We measure what is easy to count, not what matters.
- Calls Made (Easy) vs. Conversations Had (Hard).
- MQLs Genereated (Easy) vs. Meetings Held (Hard).
- Emails Sent (Easy) vs. Replies Positive (Hard).
When you incentivize "Calls Made," reps will just call the same 10 people 5 times. The chart goes up. Revenue stays flat.
The Shift: Verification Metrics
Move from "Activity" to "Verification".
A "Verification Metric" requires a counter-party action.
- Activity: I sent a quote. (Noise)
- Verification: The customer opened the doc and viewed the pricing page. (Signal)
Implementation
Audit your dashboard. If a metric can be gamed by an employee pressing a button, delete it (or hide it). Only surface metrics that require a customer to do something.
